Dr. Teguest Guerma
Founder and CEO
Dr. Teguest Guerma is currently working as a founder and CEO of LeDeG Midwifery College, a social enterprise she has established with her own fund since end of 2015. From 2010 to 2015 Dr. Guerma was the first African woman Director General of Amref Health Africa: an African International organization that supports community health in more than 35 countries in Africa.
Prior to that she worked for 21 years for the World health organization in Africa, Asia, Europe and the US. She served as a WHO Africa representative in the UN Head quarters in New York and as WHO Representative in Botswana and Nepal.
As Ass. Director and later as the Acting Director of the WHO Global Program on AIDS she co-led the 3 by 5 Initiative that helped to make antiretroviral drugs available for developing countries. Dr. Guerma started her career as medical doctor in a public hospital in Burundi in 1985 where she diagnosed the first AIDS cases in the country.
She was a UN commissioner in the UN commission on life saving commodities for women and children. She is an awardee of the highest medal of the Government of France: Chevalier of the Legion d’honeur. She is also a member of the Rotary club and several others associations.
Dr. Guerma is the author of several scientific papers.
Dr Guerma is a medical doctor with post graduate degree in infectious diseases. She is also a fellow of the Royal college of Physicians.

Dr. Tilahun Bogale (Ph.D., Associate professor of Infectious Diseases) – College Dean. A Medical Doctor (Specialized in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases). Dr. Tilahun Bogale has worked as a Sector Manager, Director, Dean, Deputy Manager, Instructor, Researcher, Consultant and
Advisor for 23years.
Mr. Biniam Endale – Anatomy Course Instructor. Mr. Biniam did his first degree in Nursing and a second degree in Medical Anatomy. He has been teaching in different medical colleges for over ten years.
Mrs. Asnaku Kebede– Administration and Finance Head. Mrs. Asnaku Kebede has diplomas in Accounting. Later, she upgraded to a degree in Accounting. Mrs. Asnaku Kebede worked in diverse Companies as a Senior Accountant and General Accountants and Admin for over Ten years.
Mr. Zerihun Minlikalew – Academic head and Quality Assurance Officer. Zerihun completed his first degree in Midwifery and a second degree in Midwifery education. He also attained a Bachelor’s degree in Management. Zerihun has been working at Mekele University as Lecturer, Research Coordinator, and Assistant Professor.
Yeshidinber Leshie – Cashier Accountant. Yeshindinber has completed a Diploma in Accounting and has been working in diverse capacities—mainly cashier-accountant and general services—from the inception of the college.
Sr. Tirunesh Tadesse – Midwifery Course Instructor. Sr. Tirunesh has two diplomas in Nursing and Community Nursing. Later, she upgraded to a degree in Nursing. Sr. Tirunesh worked in diverse health facilities and colleges as a staff nurse, instructor, clinical supervisor, and Chief Clinical Officer for over thirty years.
Sr. Luchia Araya – Midwifery Course Instructor. She did a diploma in Nursing and Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery. She worked as a staff nurse, chief clinical officer, and Instructor in diverse health facilities and health science colleges.
Mr. Tesfalem Girma – HRM. Tesfalem did his first degree in Public Administration and Development Management. He has been worked in a diverse Company as a Staff Development officer and Sinor Human Resource Officer.
